Hand Wash Only

Josh was so excited when I put him in our laundry room sink last week. Gracie calls him a "Curious Man" and he was living up to his nickname, checking out every surface as fast as his hands could move. I pulled him out right before he figured out how to turn the faucet on. Sweet, sweet boy.

Roundish-With-a-Hook

Gracie wrote her first "G" this week! How exciting.

She also talked her way through Josh's well-check at the doctor. After chatting with the nurse about our own measuring tape at home..."Actually, ours is green," she tells Yelaina...our nurse finally asks, "And how old are you?" Gracie responds, "Two. I'm almost FIVE." Seriously, folks.

Josh-Proofing

This is a typical picture of our moments these days. Josh, with one sock on and one off, smiles as I grab the camera to document yet ANOTHER area that I need to baby-proof. Pantry shelves one, two, and now three have been discovered by Josh the Explorer.

Little Reminders

We have been thinking a lot about G'ma Caroline this past month. February marked a year since her passing, and she has been coming to mind quite often. My dad and his siblings have been cleaning out her house, and now my brother and his wife are buying it and moving in. It is so exciting to have another generation living at her place! My parents have been going through all of her "treasures" and have been trying to find homes for any and all of it. I've been wearing one of her rings all month--the one pictured above she wore on the finger that God saved after she sliced the tip off while cutting meat at the Colton Market. I can still see it on her finger. I also inherited an old pot that she made potato soup in and a great big cookie sheet that is deep enough to make brownies in. Yesterday when I made cookies on it for the first time, I was taken aback when I opened up the oven and was knocked over by the smell of one of her homemade pies. This must've been one of the sheets she put under her baking pies... I was amazed how a smell could take me back to her kitchen table and squeeze my heart so instantaneously.

While we keep going through G'ma Caroline's THINGS, I know that they weren't what was important to her. She loved and treasured the things we gave her because they were from us. I'm sure G'ma would probably tell us to do whatever we wanted with her stuff--that it was people and relationships that really mattered. But I have to tell you, I'm pretty glad it's close to impossible to wash away baked-on pie filling. :)

And as a PS...I was a bit frustrated with Gracie yesterday and I said in my serious mother-tone: "Graaaacie..." and I was so flustered that I couldn't remember her middle name. (It was THAT crazy of a day.) She just smiled at me and completed my thought: "Caroline!" The moment failed to communicate my frustration--Gracie just thought we were playing a fun fill-in-the-blank game. :) G'ma would've loved that story!

The Latest...

...Josh has learned to point! And he's touching his mommy's heart as he points to family members in pictures. He's also learned to give kisses--great sloppy, open mouth kisses--usually delivered right on the lips. He gave some to one-year-old Lydia tonight and thought he was pretty slick until they had a falling out over a limited number of Cheerios. She gave him the stiff-arm rejection and he cried like...a baby. Either he has a sensitive heart or he REALLY wanted those Cheerios. Either way, the kisses are the sweetest thing anyone could HOPE to receive.

Two-to-the-Fifth Power

Yes, Ellie is 32 this year! G'pa Harvey always has some fun mathematical way to highlight your age--last year I was prime, this year I'm 2x2x2x2x2. I had a great birthday WEEK. Jeff spoiled me with little gifts all week--flowers, CD waiting for me in the car, a Whitworth sweatshirt, maple bars... We celebrated with the Lochheads on Friday night and went to the farm for the weekend. Other highlights: Croque Madame's by Colleen, Megan staying with us at the farm, Gracie's birthday wake-up greeting, and Mom pointing out that our kids are more gift than we could ask for. God's grace in my life continues to amaze me!
