Truth be told, Jeff is the date remember-er in our family. (And our daughter, Gracie, will take over for him when he starts losing his very sharp marbles...) He always reminds me when February 4 rolls around that it is the anniversary of our engagement. But this year, instead of responding with, "Oh, yeaaaaaah," when he reminded me, I saw it coming. We've been talking about our 10-year anniversary coming up in June of this year, so I'd decided to plan something surprising for Jeff on our 10-year engagement day anniversary, thinking that he'd be thrown off, looking just to the June 10-year date. And since he planned quite an extensive day for me ten years ago, the least I could do was surprise him with a date night in the middle of the week. :)
Kaitlyn and Linnea were available to watch the kids--we skipped swimming lessons that night--and I showed up at Rogers right when Jeff was supposed to be done with HW Club, Dutch Love coffee in hand. His car was nowhere to be found in the lot, so I called him. Turns out, club had been canceled that night and he was working out at the gym thinking we would be arriving for swimming lessons at any moment. Whelp, at least he was surprised! :) After I tracked him down we went downtown to the bridge that Jeff proposed on and took a selfie in the dark. Then we went to Boo Radley's and Atticus to see if we could spend his gift card. Dinner and drinks were next at Perry Street Brewing and dinner walked in from South Perry Pizza. It was so delicious--and we felt quite sneaky having a date night on a Wednesday!
And it turns out that he was working on a surprise, too, but mine came together sooner and trumped his at-home plan of our movie and flowers. But I still got the flowers on the way home!
Ten sweet years have FLOWN BY. We like where we are now...but had a lot of fun remembering the official day that started this whole decade together.
