Cousin Megan and Aunt KT came to visit after one of Megan's gymnastics meets here in Spokane. "Has anything died here before?" was the question she asked during a moment of play. Upon clarification, she was asking about dead pets. We told her of our one and only pet, our beloved Beta fish named Tutu by our then-4 year-old daughter. That was all she needed. She and Grace hustled around the yard and called us out to see their gravesite for Tutu--complete with flowers, rocks, and other yard decorations. Megan's own fish died a few weeks later, so she was all practiced up--she was then ready for a funeral (with family wearing proper funeral attire) and a salute in the bathroom at the actual (flushable) burial site. This girl!
