At the end of the day, the governor announced that due to the potential spread of Coronavirus, he was closing schools the following Tuesday. Restaurants and bars closed. Only essential services open. At a meeting after school we learned that we'd be teaching remotely starting next week. Wow. Wow. At that point we weren't up on mask-wearing or social-distancing, it was all new. I remember watching the students at the end of the day Friday--Responsibility Recess--knowing that the governor was holding a press conference. Little did I know that Monday wouldn't happen for our district (wrestling team exposed at a competition so there was extra caution in not going back) so that moment was the last I had with students in the classroom in the 2019-20 school year.
We weren't quite knowing all that was going to happen at this point. I went home and took pictures of the boys' new haircuts and then we went to Debbie and Randy's to have a game night with Cassie. We played an escape room game. We'd find out later that night that Cassie decided to high-tail it back to HK before things started to shut down here. Proper goodbyes lost!
Snow on March 13 on the way home. Ominous foreshadowing?
