Day 3 was the day we drove to El Dorado State Park. It was a beautiful drive to get there and a great park to hike in. The elk seen above were pretty used to people--seen right along the road not far from our cabin.
Genesee, Colorado. Who knew?
Before the 7 miles of hiking! Lots of rock climbers in this park--rocks reaching straight up!
This was the site of an old hotel...a gambling resort, as I recall...people had to tram up or train in to it...but it ended in a mysterious fire just two years after opening.
It was so beautiful!
Pictures don't capture how HIGH UP that train track was...
Of course the Lochheads had to venture out to make this hike a LOOP TRAIL...when it was all said and done, I think we hiked seven miles. I'll have to double check with my numbers guy. It was a day well spent!
