Denver Day 1--Castlewood Canyon and the Rehearsal Dinner

So our perfect vacation days would unfold as follows:  a hike in the morning, relaxing in the afternoon, and then eating a really good dinner at the end of the day.  Wait, there may be some delicious food for breakfast and lunch, too.  Calories are our favorite souvenirs.  At any rate, our lovely Denver days seemed to unfold in this manner.

We didn't arrive at our hotel until 2am, so the next morning involved an extra-large coffee.  The hike we found wasn't too far away.  Huge boulders along the creek bottom, and high overlooks from the top of the valley on the return trip.  We met a local hiker, who suggested his favorite trails in the area (and also recommended the movie, "The Way," which we watched a month later and loved), and realized that there were, in fact, pictures worth taking that did NOT include the faces of our children.

[Okay, kid pictures may be better than shoe pictures...]

Denver is usually a pretty warm this time of year, but we lucked out and enjoyed overcast and thunderstorms all week long.

I introduced Jeff to Chic-fil-A for lunch.  Waffle-cut fries, chicken sandwiches, and cookies-n-creme milkshakes...I love this place!  Surrounded by moms with kids, we felt quite free.  Jeff then drug me to the outlet malls--blech!  I was SO TIRED, Todd.  (Remember the order?  Hike, NAP, dinner?) But our shopping was a success--we found a HOT outfit for him, for cheap.

That night we were invited to the rehearsal dinner and we had a wonderful time visiting with Christina and Danny and their families.  No pictures of this event, just memories of a happy couple, gushing family, and really delicious food.  We were so glad we went.

And on the way home that night there was AMAZING LIGHTNING and a downpour of rain.  Jeff was in weather heaven.  I attempted to become the BEST TEACHER EVER by getting a picture of Bronco Stadium for one of my students back home.  [It's the thought that counts!]
